Behind the Music

Salyse is a Boston-based artist and rising star in the music scene whose music has proven to be relevant and unique. She is known for her captivating performances and soulful sound. As an independent artist, she has garnered a dedicated following with her authentic approach to music-making and her ability to connect with listeners on a deeper level.

Raised by a strong, single mother who adored Motown, danced to disco, and instilled a strong work ethic and sense of independence in her, Salyse began dancing at 5, falling in love with musical theater. This led her to attend Walnut Hill School for the Arts and later Berklee College of Music to hone her skills and sharpen her artist’s perspective. Her journey took a pivotal turn during her college years when the rise in social justice movements inspired her to use her art for activism. After transferring to Emory University, Salyse earned a degree in African American Studies using her expertise in Black culture to influence and inspire her music and help her create her signature sound. Later, Salyse’s commitment to advocacy and movements carried through as she became known for her performances at women empowerment events and celebrations of Black history where she further honed her sound to what it is today.

Salyse’s music is an energetic fusion of soul, R&B, house, and disco, drawing inspiration from legends like Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, and Marvin Gaye, and contemporary artists like Solange and Kaytranada. Her passionate voice and bold, vibrant style invite listeners to dance, feel, and embrace freedom. With a focus on healing, community, and empowerment, her music aims to uplift the mind, body, and soul, creating a space where all can find solace in the rhythm. Whether on stage or in the studio, Salyse’s artistry is a celebration of life’s joys, struggles, and everything in between, combining sonic energy with activism to move people both physically and emotionally.

Salyse was named one of Massachusetts and Boston’s Top 10 R&B artists in Kulture Vultures and featured on Becoming Her Magazine's cover.
